How to Pop a Pimple
Although there is much debate as to whether one should pop a pimple or let it heal naturally, the fact of the matter is, most people are not willing to walk around with a big shiny red pus-filled lump on their face. Although most dermatologists are completely against the idea of popping pimples I, for one, am a firm beleiver that if a pimple is properly popped, it can heal just as fast as if you were to let it run the course of it’s healing process.
I should first mention that under no circumstances should one pick at his or her pimples, or let this become a habit, or even obsession. This should really only be under sterile circumstances to the odd pimple, and never to larger more painful acne cysts or lesions as this may cause severe scarring. If there are numerous pimples that you think require popping, you should immediately seek some kind of effective acne treatment before the problem gets out of hand.
- Now that you are ready to pop your pimple, you will need to get everything clean and sterile including your hands, the acne region where you intend to pop the pimple, as well as a small needle that you will use to release the pus.
- You should also first wash your face in warm water to soften the skin and make more flexible and less likely to break upon squeezing.
- Take the needle and gently poke or nick the tip of the pimple where the pus is until it breaks through, being very careful not to go too far.
- Using your index fingers, slowly begin to apply pressure around the region of the pimple.
- Being very careful, keep squeezing until you see a small amount of blood or a clear fluid.
- Use a piece of tissue or a sterile pad to clean up whatever came out.
- Gently wash the area again.
This isn’t necessarily a process that is right for everyone, and certainly if you are not already popping your pimples, I wouldn’t recommend that you start. This is more of a guide to doing it the right way for those who already are.
